Remember to keep checking Charlotte Fresh’s Special Events page for the latest and greatest things to do.  Some spectacular events have already come and gone, but mid-June we’ve still got an amazing line-up of awesome farm-to-table and on-farm dinners to choose from.

  • Saturday, June 2, 2012 – July 21, 2012: Tour De Food begins gourmet food tours. Purchase tickets here.  Choose from tours planned for Davidson, NoDa and Charlotte.
  • Monday, June 18, 2012:  Harvest Moon Grille Porktastic 5-course dinner featuring handcrafted food paired with the dynamite beers from Charlotte’s Birdsong Brewing Company. $75 per person; tax and gratuity not included.  Make your reservations now! Call 704-342-1193 or use OpenTable.
  • Wednesday, June 20, 2012: Guest Chef Dinner Series at Passion8 Bistro.  Chef Joe Bonaparte will join in the kitchen for a collaborative dinner of local fare.  Six courses of lovingly prepared cuisine.  $68 per person.  By reservation only. Call 803-802-7455 for more info and to reserve.
  • Saturday, June 23, 2012:  On-Farm Dinner at New Town Farms.  More info to come.

Fresh Recipe: Komatsuna Souffled Omelette

Charlotte Fresh’s fridge is bursting with fresh produce and eggs as we head into week three of our 2012 Hinson Farms CSA share.  The first week’s share was so bountiful, produce covered our countertop.  During that time, I was ill, so poor Hubby was trying to eat through everything himself before we started bequeathing greens to friends.  A weekly full share is big enough for a family of four!  (Hubby did use some items to make me the most-loving-chicken-soup-ever to help me recover, but I’ll write about that soup another time.)  So far, Hinson Farms has provided us with wonderfully-tasting familiar items like lettuce, kale, radishes, nappa cabbage, swiss chard, beets, onions and broccoli.  One thing we received last week that we’ve never had is komatsuna.

Fresh Eats: Pure Pizza

If you haven’t been by the 7th Street Public Market in the past few weeks, then you haven’t discovered the recently opened Pure Pizza.  And now Charlotte Fresh feels sorry for you.  Because you are missing out on some really good pizza.  And that’s saying something since CF is a born-and-raised Jersey Girl.  (But my heart’s all yours now, CLT!)  Having said that, you won’t find exactly the kind of NJ/NY pizza parlor pie that I grew up with (which, incidentally, is the best in its category) at Pure Pizza.  Instead, you’ll be surprised to encounter a fresher tasting pizza – one with a crust that has a nice chew to it and that showcases beautiful toppings, many locally sourced.  A pizza that actually lets you taste all that is on it and in it.  WHAT?!  Back up the truck – did CF say there’s a pizza that knows how to go local when possible?  Yep.  Someone pinch me.  Meet Charlotte’s farm-to-fork pizzeria.
